These are not motion activated, and the ad does not say that they are. I assumed, so shame on me. Nonetheless, these are very nice looking lights. The install was interesting. I expected it to be more difficult because you have to put the screws in and then place the light over the screws and snap it down. Believe it or not, I did it in one try! I really expected it to be more difficult. I used a cloth tape measure and the distance between the screws is 3 and 1/8 inch. I used a wax pencil, also called a grease pencil to mark the spots to drill. Then I drilled pilot holes and then ran the screws in. This was placed on a post beside a gate on a vinyl fence and it went smoothly.I like the amber color because it seems to not interfere so much with looking at the night sky. I couldn't use them all because they aren't motion activated, but I held on to them and used one of them at my gate. I know the others will get used eventually too, or family will use them.Be sure to turn the light on by flipping the switch on back prior to installing.
